One of the biggest joys of being part of a homeschool association is the chance to explore learning beyond traditional subjects, and clubs are a fantastic way to do just that! Whether it's LEGO building, book discussions, or nature walks, clubs offer kids opportunities to socialize, develop interests, and discover new passions in a fun, low-pressure environment.

If you're thinking about starting a club, here's a simple guide to help you get started, and keep things running smoothly!

How to choose a type of club to start

Start with a few clubs that match your child(ren)'s interests, age ranges, and available volunteers. Popular ideas include:

• Lego club
• Book club

Planning tips for a sucessful club

Here’s how to keep things organized and stress-free:

• Pick a clear schedule: Bi-weekly? Monthly?
• Keep sessions short and sweet: 45-60 minutes is often ideal.
• Set age ranges: This helps with expectations and planning activities.
• Keep supplies simple: Ask for donations or use what families already have.
• Be flexible: Clubs should feel fun and relaxed, not rigid.
• Encourage student involvement: When students take ownership, they become more invested, and gain leadership skills along the way.
• Keep communication clear: Post updates in SJHA's  facebook group, hand out flyers at co-op, make sure the club is loaded to our website.
